Challenges / complexities of contracts / projects and how they were overcome

PFG have many years experience of working in busy Railway Station Environments. We understand the demands of working on Network Rail Infrastructure and the importance of having minimum impact to the services that our train operating company clients provide.
On this project we worked closely with the Contract Administrator and the Station Manager to ensure that we carried out the works as efficiently as possible whilst keeping the station in operation.
This contract involved the complete shutdown of the front entrance with the entrance on the upside of the station being utilized. We arranged with the client for additional railway staff to be available to vend tickets when the local football team Southampton, were playing at their home ground, due to restricted access into the ticket office.

We had to take special care when planning the forecourt works and the phasing of these, with liaison with local transport providers for the temporary relocation of bus stops and bicycle racking.

Areas of completed works were handed back in phases to assist the operation of the station with many tasks carried out during engineering hours.
Along with the Client and the Design Team, we successfully delivered the contract in accordance with the 18 week programme and within the Tendered Contract Sum.

Approach to service delivery for the contracts / project

This contract was delivered by a structure consisting of a senior contracts manager, a non working site supervisor and a deputy working site supervisor (for mitigating 24hr working), a quantity surveyor for preparation of valuations and dealing with financial variations to the contract with the project being overseen by a company Director.

Specialist suppliers were utilized where required, with the remainder of the work force being PFG directly employed operatives.
